Redhook was set to post another entry on the blog when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on January 12. Suddenly, Redhook’s brain droppings seemed less important.
Haiti was already a country in disarray. But, as you’ve undoubtedly seen on the news, the overwhelming devastation of this event has pushed this poverty-stricken nation over the edge.
Relief experts have asked that people not send physical items, like clothing, food or bottled water, since that would create a logistical nightmare. The best and most efficient way to help is with your wallet. There are many avenues for your philanthropy:
The American Red Cross. You can text “haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross. Or you can go to their site.
Doctors Without Borders. Click here to make a contribution.
Oxfam America. You can make a contribution here.
And Google has created their own online relief center.
Please do what you can to help. Thanks for listening.
